Twice a year, we celebrate glowy skin with our Peel Party. When attendees purchase a peel, they receive a complimentary peel on their account for future use. Still, we realize a lot of people are new to peels or hesitant about the level of commitment that comes with taking the peel plunge. That’s why we asked an esthetician to answer some of our most frequently asked questions regarding peels.
How often should someone get a peel?
We recommend every 4-6 weeks because it takes about 30 days for your skin to turn over. A total of six treatments is recommended.
Do peels hurt?
With most peels, you will feel a tingle. It goes away in a couple minutes, and we follow up with a sunscreen that neutralizes any sensation. Throughout the treatment, we’ll check in on a scale of 1-10 — your peel shouldn’t be painful.
I feel like my skin is in great condition. What would be the benefit of getting a peel?
If you live in Texas, the sun can be intense. There are pollutants in the air that can be detoxed by, say, the antioxidant peel. Some peels can also help to create a protective layer against these pollutants.
Are there any things you can’t or shouldn’t do immediately after getting a peel?
You should avoid heat of any kind. Skip going out in the sun, working out, or taking a really hot shower so your skin can heal.
During milk + honey’s Peel Party, do we buy the peel day of or redeem the peel day of?
When you purchase your peel, an additional peel will be added to your account for the future.
If these answers didn’t help to demystify peels, please leave additional questions in the comments. We’ll ask a milk + honey esthetician and follow up with you in no time.

From our milk + honey HQ office to the halls of our spas and salons, we often find ourselves discussing books. The books we’re reading, what we love to read, what everyone else is reading—you name it, we’ve gone there. We even started #bathtimebookclub earlier this summer to discuss some of our favorite reads of the moment. When we discovered today is National Read A Book Day, we knew it was time to strike up the convo again. In honor of the (admittedly niche) holiday, we’re sharing some of our current favorites.
Our cult-favorite clean deodorant was recently relaunched in stick format. Along with the updated format, we launched three strengths: Extra Strength, Regular Strength, and Baking Soda-Free. Don’t know where to start? No worries — we’ve got you covered. Take our short quiz below to discover which Deodorant is for you.
Summer may officially be coming to an end, but sunny Austin feels the heat (almost) year-round. That said, us Austinites have a keen sense for seasonal staples. To round out these last couple months of summer, our founder is sharing her favorites. From sun hats to sunglasses, we’ve got you covered.
It’s been nearly a month since we re-launched our cult-favorite aluminum-free Deodorant in stick format with a new blend and three new strengths. The verdict is in: it really works. But don’t just take our word for it. We’ve rounded up Instagram mentions, feedback, and tips from early adopters. Scroll on to read the word on the streets (or should I say, the screens.)

It’s that time of year again. Pool parties and beach vacays can often mean one thing: waxing bikini lines and beyond. Though many favor rocking body hair these days, (you’ve gotta do you!) we’re sharing some pro-tips to make the most of your next waxing appointment. We caught up with the ever-glowy (and incredibly kind) milk + honey esthetician, Jessica H., for her hair-removal best practices.
Grow it out
Jessica says the hair length should be at least a quarter of an inch long. “This means grown out approximately two weeks after shaving and three to four weeks after waxing. The hair needs to be long enough for the wax to grab the hair and pull it out by its root.”
Don’t forget to hydrate
“Hydrated healthy skin is very important,” says Jessica. “This eliminates hair breakage and skin lifting. Hydrated skin also helps eliminate ingrown hairs from forming between waxing services.”
Jessica also encourages exfoliation to make waxing easier and prevent ingrown hairs. “Layers of dead skin can interfere with the quality of the service,” she says. “Exfoliating the skin will ensure a more comfortable service and thorough removal of the hair.”
Know your wax
“If your skin is prone to ingrown hairs — especially on the bikini line — request that hard wax is used in your service,” Jessica advises.
Use product post-wax
“Using a post-wax serum that promotes skin cell turnover, an anti-bacterial environment, and hydrates the skin in one multi-action formula is a must,” Jessica insists. “At milk + honey, we carry Flawless and Cosmedix Pure Enzymes — both are really popular retail items that are used by our clients.”
Hold off on breaking a sweat
Jessica recommends waiting 24 hours after waxing to engage in extreme perspiration (i.e. hot yoga, running, biking, etc.) This includes direct sunlight for excessive periods of time, steam showers and baths as well as chlorinated pools and hot tubs. “Try to keep the waxed area clean and hydrated,” she says.” “Keeping the body cool and hydrated will inhibit any skin reactions and irritations.”

Everyone knows your skincare regimen needs a little TLC during the sunny, summer months, but have you ever considered your hair routine? Personally, I find myself stepping up my hair hydration game between May and Octoberish. (That’s summer when you live in Austin.) I prefer to let my hair air dry, but Texan summer heat + my natural waves = an often frizzy, not super chill look on my part. I’ve tried Lee From America’s famous #cocobun, of course, but I needed insider info. During a blowout at milk + honey, I found the answers c/o Kate Allen, a very knowledgeable stylist.
