As if we didn’t already have enough to love in the Kevin.Murphy family, the brand debuts its newest product: Shimmer.Me Blonde. And yes, it’s love at first sight (er, spray). Like the original, gold-flecked Shimmer.Shine, Shimmer.Me Blonde ($28) is a repairing shine treatment that works overtime on your hair. Let us count the ways.

  1. Enhances color; counteracts yellow and gold tones.
  2. Provides radiant shine and smooth finish.
  3. Paraben-free.
  4. Contains six Australian fruit extracts, Babassu oil, bamboo extract, and soy bean oil.
  5. Natural softens and moisturizes hair.
  6. Strengthens strands even as it nourishes.
  7. Restores and refreshes lightened and highlighted hair. (Also ideal for blonde and gray shades!)

Before and After: How the HydraFacial Saved My Skin

January 18, 2017

If you haven’t experienced a HydraFacial yet, what are you waiting for? It’s nothing short of amazing. And if you’ve ever heard one of your friends singing its praises, I promise you — that friend is not exaggerating. In fact, I’m about to join in the chorus and share a few nuggets, including a before-and-after shot, from my most recent HydraFacial treatment.

My skin type: Combination Dry

Current state of skin: Dry and red irritation; oily patches (mostly cheek area), clogged pores, and a hormonal breakout around the jawline. Oof. General dullness. I’ve been traveling more than usual and the stress — and indulgence — of the holidays certainly caught up to my skin. Between major climate changes (cold, frigid Boston air vs. Austin’s warmer temps) and over 30 hours of flight time (Austin > Japan > Shanghai > Austin > Boston > Austin) logged, let’s just say my skin wasn’t looking its best.

Goals for HydraFacial: I know not everything can be “cured” in one session, but I wanted to leave with clear pores and lots of hydration. My skin was screaming for it.

Results Post-HydraFacial: Glowy-ness! My skin feels rejuvenated and undeniably clean. It’s the most hydrated version of itself right now and I couldn’t be more pleased. The jawline breakouts, while still visible to me, have been stopped in their tracks. Finally, the sallow tone of my skin is gone. Success!

See my before-and-after shots…

September 19, 2016

We interrupt London Fashion Week to bring you a different kind of catwalk, courtesy of Hollywood’s A-list: the 2016 Emmys star-studded red carpet, of course. Last night, we weren’t only taking note of the fashion (or the arm candy), but looking for the “best of” beauty as well. Herein find the looks that will inspire our own glamour manifesto as we head straight for a party-filled holiday season ahead.

Kerry Washington is always at the top of our “best” everything list and last night? She did not disappoint. The Scandal actress showed off her baby bump in a custom cutout Brandon Maxwell cape dress, wearing her hair long, voluminous, and curly and her lashes equally dramatic. One word: stunning.

What Is Cupping?

August 11, 2016

Screen Shot 2016-08-11 at 1.33.24 PM

You may have noticed that some of the greatest Olympic athletes — ahem, Michael Phelps! Alex Naddour! — are sporting some rather odd-looking marks on their backs and shoulders. No, they’re not giant hickeys nor are they part of some new tattoo fad. Those small, circular marks are the result of a healing technique called “cupping.” We asked Jamie, massage therapist at milk + honey Hill Country Galleria, to give us the lowdown on cupping — what it is, why athletes are utilizing it, and why it’s good for you.

What is cupping?

Cupping is an ancient Chinese medicine modality that has been around for thousands of years. Cupping does, in fact, involve a cup — attached to a pump. The technique increases blood flow and helps to heal sore muscles.

Why are athletes, like Michael Phelps, cupping?

Athletes use it because it helps increase muscle recovery by helping to eliminate lactic acid and toxins from the muscle layer. By pulling the blood to the skin’s surface with suction, it allows for new oxygenated blood to help restore the tissues. That said, it’s not only useful for athletes. Most sports injuries stem from overuse and/or misuse of a muscle or, in some cases, lack of use. For example: if you have neck and shoulder pain that limits your use of your arms, cupping can help reduce muscle tension and help improve range of motion while helping to reduce inflammation by moving lymph fluid.

Is cupping for you?

Often times, clients come in feeling stressed, but after a cupping session, they leave feeling like a weight has been lifted! Cupping is great for shoulder, neck, and back tightness and pain — and is also amazing for releasing tight hamstrings, calves, and quads from running, sitting at a desk all day long, driving, and daily exercise.

What’s the Deal With Those Himalayan Salt Lamps?

May 30, 2016

Perhaps, you’ve already noticed those glowing “orbs” of pink-ish light dotting the treatment rooms of our spas? If not, we’re here to tell you: we love a Himalayan crystal salt lamp here at milk + honey. Let us count the ways.

k2-_8de1f962-f43f-4e92-be90-8a17b84d3582.v1

  1. It naturally purifies the air. When lit, it removes dust, pollen, cigarette smoke, pet dander, and other air pollutants.
  2. Because this lamp cleanses the air, it helps to reduce allergy and asthma symptoms as well as ease coughing.
  3. When lit, the lamp emits negative ions that fight against positively charged particles that cause you to feel stuff sluggish. Translation? You’ll experience increased energy levels.
  4. It naturally enhances your mood. I mean, how could it not? Increased energy levels, clean air, reduced allergies? Yes, please!
  5. It is an environmentally-friendly light source.
  6. While this may not be a true health benefit, it sure does make us happy — Himalayan crystal salt lamps reduce static electricity.

The best part of all this list making? milk + honey now offers these Himalayan Natural Crystal Salt Lamps ($40) in all of our locations. Don’t miss out!

SXSW 2016: Our Guide to the Music Festival

March 14, 2016

There’s never a shortage of live music in Austin, but SXSW Music ups the ante tenfold. It’s sensory overload with a side of FOMO thrown into the mix — who to see and who to pass over with only so many hours in the day? With all this ear candy taking over most of downtown Austin, it begs the question: where to start? I’ve mapped out the shows I’m most excited about in the hopes that you too will glean some of your own concert-going inspiration.

Anamanaguchi DJ set

The self-proclaimed “boy band” out of New York has amassed an impressive cult following thanks to its addictive electronic meets J-pop beats. If you’re unfamiliar with their sound, press “play” on Pop It, a more recent favorite of mine that is bubblegum-dance perfection.

Playing Tuesday, March 15 and Thursday, March 17.
