Jamie Kelsch Her latest jewelry line, “Flight,” was inspired by her move from Colorado to Austin eight years ago and is marked by elegance and urban appeal. Each and every piece of J. Kelsch Jewelry is made by hand with the kind of attention to detail and quality craftsmanship that turns wearable art into potential heirlooms. “Wearability is important to me,” says Kelsch, “I keep my jewelry lightweight and integrate a lot of hinges to create movement.”

See and shop Kelsch’s pieces at our Downtown – 2nd Street location from February 11 to 13.

‘Bee Amour’ Jewelry Trunk Show, December 23 at 2nd Street District

‘Bee Amour’ Jewelry Event, December 23

2nd Street District from 1pm to 4pm

milk + honey spa has featured the work of Austin-based jewelry designer and original milk + honey employee, Anna Gieselman, since we opened in 2006. It is with great excitement that we introduce her new jewelry line: Bee Amour. The latest work is a fusion of two of Anna’s passions, jewelry designing and back yard bee keeping.

Some of the first pieces of the Bee Amour line were original castings straight out of her hive and the line has since expanded to include rings, bracelets and even tie clips. Since the bees provide her with the inspiration for Bee Amour, Anna donates 5% of every purchase to bee-loving organizations and non-profits that research apiary issues, and provide education to new beekeepers.

Why did you want to start your own jewelry business?
Briolette designers, Nicole Martinez and Jayne Malasko, formalized their lifelong passion for art, beauty and nature by coming together to design jewelry. After much enthusiasm from friends and family, they founded Briolette in 2009.

What piece of jewelry does every woman need?
Every woman needs a fantastic statement necklace that can be worn to highlight casual daywear and compliment evening attire. Briolette jewelry offers a fashionable touch of class, or sass for any occasion. Designers Jayne Malasko and Nicole Martinez create one-of-a- kind jewelry from only the best precious and semi-precious natural stones & 14K GF or sterling silver.

What is your favorite thing about designing jewelry?
Nicole Martinez and Jayne Malasko enjoy searching for unique materials from different parts of the world, which infuse their work with artistic inspiration.

What are you most looking forward to with fashion week?
During Austin Fashion Week, Briolette designers, Nicole Martinez and Jayne Malasko, look forward to meeting new people within the Austin community as well as sharing design.

Anything else you want us to know about you?
Briolette’s designs are inspired by nature’s complexity and richness of texture and color. Each piece is handcrafted and transformed into a wearable work of art featuring only high quality, natural semi-precious and precious stones that are finished out in 14K gold-filled, sterling silver or vermeil.

Their nature inspired vision expands beyond their jewelry line to their exclusive packaging, which they have cleverly named Briolette’s Vuvessel TM (view-ves-sel). The Vuvessels house Briolette earrings in crystal vials that serve as distinctive displays, whimsical gift boxes or convenient travel cases that not only protect the jewelry from tarnishing but can be recycled after final use.

Austin Fashion Week – Jewelry Designer Melissa Borrell

Austin Fashion Week is coming AUGUST 20-27!

Austin Fashion Week is quickly approaching and milk + honey is proud to be involved. Each of our locations has paired with a local jewelry designer with events taking place during the big week. Melissa Borrell is one of the jewelry designers paired with milk + honey. Come see Melissa at our event next Thursday the 25th from 6-9pm at our milk + honey Spa downtown location.

Melissa Borrell

Why did you want to start your own jewelry business?
I’ve always loved creating things, especially jewelry. Initially I was making jewelry just to fulfill my passion, but once I started wearing it, people really reacted to it and wanted to buy my designs, so the business pretty much came to life on its own.

What piece of jewelry does every woman need?
I think every woman should have one piece that makes them feel like they are truly expressing their own personality and individuality.

What is your favorite thing about designing jewelry?
I love the challenge of designing something that is beautiful and easy to wear, while at the same time being engaging and interactive. I like to challenge people’s notions of what jewelry can be and often create pieces that have double lives; it doesn’t look like jewelry until you put it on.

What are you most looking forward to with fashion week?
I look forward to meeting other people who love fashion and design, as well as finding inspiration in their creativity.

Anything else you want us to know about you?
Jewelry is just one of the outlets for my creativity. I also create sculpture pieces, window shades, vases, and other artwork.

Why did you want to start your own jewelry business?
From an early age, my parents instilled an independent spirit in me with a solid backbone of practicality. I was always running around and making little beaded things, thinking I was one day going to rule the world.

I happened to rediscover my passion for jewelry as I was about to graduate from the University of Texas. I fell in love and knew I had to keep going. So I jumped! I took my degree and went off, determined to get into the industry. I landed a great job and went about my jewelry education.

About three and a half years later, that independent spirit completely overruled the practical side of me, and I once again jumped. I needed to do more, I needed to design and create. I’m at that point in my life where I can afford to roll the dice. So I did.

What piece of jewelry does every woman need?
Every woman needs a statement piece. It is an indicator of personality and personal style. It’s fun and you feel special wearing it. I think statement rings or earrings are the most versatile. Every outfit doesn’t necessarily call for a big necklace or bracelet, but you can almost always put on a great pair of earrings or a ring and be set.

What is your favorite thing about designing jewelry?
I really love fashion, so to me I love designing jewelry that is the perfect accessory to an outfit – a piece or pieces that elevate your look to the next level. Sometimes designing is like finding that last puzzle piece.

What are you most looking forward to with Austin Fashion Week?
Austin Fashion Week is so much fun! You can feel the excitement in the air. There is so many things going on, and everyone is excited about what they are seeing or doing. It’s just a great time to celebrate the spirit of our city.

Anything else you want us to know about you?
My biggest dream in life is to travel the world. People are amazing. I think we sometimes lose sight of that in our day to day grind. I want to see the world, its people and all the wonderful things they’ve created.
