Alissa Bayer, Founder of milk + honey spa
How did you come up with the idea for milk + honey?
When I decided to launch milk + honey, I knew I wanted to do something that made people feel good. I considered a wide range of business ideas (that’s the entrepreneur in me!), but ultimately everything about doing a spa felt right. It’s easy to get up everyday knowing that we are helping our clients relax, improve their confidence, health and overall well being. It’s a great feeling.
What obstacles have you faced with your start-up, and how have you overcome them?
There were many, many obstacles put in my way when I launched milk + honey, as well as during our path to growth. There were funding issues, location issues, the fact that I didn’t have any spa or salon experience under my belt, to name a few. If you are going to be an entrepreneur and more importantly a successful entrepreneur, you must be determined and tenacious. I simply do not take “no” at face value, nor do I let an obstacle deter me. Until every possible avenue has been exhausted, I will not give up on a goal.
Where do you turn for motivation?
If you are following the dollar and not your heart, success will likely be an uphill battle, or at least require a lot more “work.” Do something you love, and success will easily follow.
