how to enhance your nighttime routine

November 1, 2018

Sleep is key to improved beauty and a healthier mind and body. Therefore, it’s crucial to make sure you’re taking the time to prepare for a good night’s sleep before crawling into bed every night. To help you get the best sleep possible, we’ve compiled four suggestions to add to your nightly routine.

Use lavender and eucalyptus aromatherapy

The sleep impacts of lavender and eucalyptus are nothing to sniff at. Research has shown that lavender can calm and relax the mind while eucalyptus uplifts the body. This combination puts the body in a relaxed state of mind and lowers stress levels and heart rate to make it easier to fall asleep. Try spraying an organic home fragrance containing the two herbs on your pillow before bed to get more restful sleep.

Put cotton sheets on your bed

Ever wake up hot in the middle of the night? Overheating can interrupt healthy sleep patterns and add unwanted oil onto your skin. Cotton sheets are breathable and should help wick away sweat to keep your temperatures low throughout your sleep. Support these efforts with a foam mattress with airflow to maintain cool comfort all night.

Moisturize your skin

Hydration is key to healthy skin, especially in a dry bedroom environment. Make sure to moisturize your entire body to avoid dry, flaky, or rough skin. Bedtime is the best time to do it, allowing the lotion to be absorbed into your skin while you sleep. Avoid oily moisturizers, and instead look for body creams with rich, natural ingredients to quench your skin’s thirst the best way possible.

Journal

Stress and racing thoughts are a common sleep disruption and cause a lot of different beauty issues, such as grey hair and acne. Try to clear your mind and relax before getting into bed. Journaling can be a form of self-care that’s easy to fit in every night to organize your thoughts. Putting down your worries and to-do lists can be a therapeutic way to de-stress and get a better night’s sleep.

I will add to this list things like not eating at least 2 hours before going to bed, and also turning off every source of light in your room because those things are in my opinion the most distracting things that will prevent you from falling asleep fast and getting a relaxing, good deep sleep.
