How Much Hair Product Should I Use?

May 26, 2017

Does a little really go a long way? Should I be using more shampoo? How much mousse is too much mousse?  Perhaps, you’ve also asked yourself one of these questions when it comes to how much hair product to use. To help you get it right (and let’s be honest, we needed some guidance, too!), we enlisted the expertise of one of our talented SALON by milk + honey stylists, Ann M. Whether your hair is fine, curly, thick, or somewhere in between, she breaks down the amount of hair product we should be using — below.

Have another hair-related question? Leave it in the comments and we’ll respond shortly.

Behind the Scenes: Austin Fashion Week 2017

May 22, 2017

Lights, camera, runway! On May 19, 2017, SALON by milk + honey stylists, Amy, Morgan, and Meesh, along with salon apprentice, Peyton, participated in Austin Fashion Week. To prep for Friday evening’s runway show, the stylists met with the featured designers to create an exclusive hairstyle for the show. It had to be a look that would translate across multiple collections and aesthetics. Together, they chose soft, gorgeous curls — one part glamorous, one part low-maintenance — for the 19 models that would be walking the show. Working backstage is always filled with energy, fun, and inspiration, and this year was no different. Here are some of our favorite backstage snapshots from this year’s Austin Fashion Week.

Try the Limited-Time Ginger Ritual Mani-Pedi

May 5, 2017

Get ready for Summer with the new Ginger Ritual Manicure + Pedicure from Spa Ritual. This limited-time treatment includes the same nail care as our Lux Combo and features an energizing Indonesian Ginger essential oil. The warm, zesty aroma of ginger will instantly relax your mind and body and rejuvenate your skin, while sand and salt scrubs gently buff away dry skin.

What’s So Great About Ginger?

Since the 4th century B.C., ginger has been used for its soothing properties. Ginger is a natural pain reliever and is made up of about 90% sesquiterpene. Sesquiterpene is a chemical compound that helps soothe the nervous system and contains natural antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory agents. Along with its antibacterial properties, ginger oil contains high levels of antioxidants. In fact, the only foods that have a higher antioxidant content than ginger are pomegranates and blueberries. Ginger oil helps to diminish dark marks, scars, and age spots.

What Products Are Featured in the Ginger Ritual Treatment?

Spa Ritual Instinctual Bath Salts is a mineral-rich blend of California sea salt, Dead Sea salt, and Epsom salt. This salt combo gently buffs away damaged skin to reveal a gorgeous healthy glow. $25

Spa Ritual Instinctual Body Lotion is lightweight and contains organic shea fruit butter, olive oil, and avocado oil to deliver deep hydration. $32

Spa Ritual Instinctual Body Oil revitalize dull and lackluster skin with its lineup of organic jojoba, sesame, and safflower oils, which also help to moisturize, condition, and soften the skin. $35

For those with oily or acne prone skin, the new CosMedix Shineless Moisturizer ($48) is a beauty bag must-have. This lightweight, oil-free moisturizer is free of parabens, silicone, and animal products, utilizes nourishing ingredients to control the skin’s oil levels, delivers deep hydration, and provides a matte complexion.

Let’s break down the ingredients, shall we?

  • Lilac stem cells help control and balance oil levels, reduce the appearance of redness, and make skin smoother over time.
  • Prickly pear cactus extract contains linoleic acids, Vitamin E, and natural anti-inflammatory agents, which calm and soothe dry, irritated skin.
  • Niacinamide, aka Vitamin B3, stimulates the production of fatty acids to brighten, plump, and firm your skin. This essential vitamin also fills in holes in your skin’s moisture barrier to help your skin retain moisture.

CosMedix Shineless Moisturizer is available at milk + honey’s 2nd Street District, Hill Country Galleria, Houston, and South Lamar locations.
