How To Address Sun Damage

August 17, 2021

The dog days of summer are upon us, and undoubtedly we’re all doing our best to take it all in and soak up the sun before fall blows in. And while getting out and about may be good for the soul, it can wreak havoc on your skin.

Prolonged sun exposure can lead to myriad skin concerns such as freckles, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and wrinkles. Over time, repeated sun exposure can lead to the destruction of collagen fibers, sagging or leathery-looking skin, and even skin cancer.

When it comes to sun exposure, proper prevention with SPF is ideal, but if you’ve experienced any degree of skin damage, there are a few non-invasive procedures to help you recharge and refresh your skin. Ahead we take a look at a few laser skin treatments offered by milk + honey for when you’ve had a little too much fun in the sun.

Laser Resurfacing

Laser resurfacing is a facial rejuvenation procedure that uses pulsating beams of light to gently remove the top layer of your skin, revealing the next layer of fresh, healthy skin. This procedure is quite effective in tackling sun damage because it penetrates deeper than topical creams or chemical peels. Moreover, your aesthetician can target problem areas effectively without overdoing it in others. Laser resurfacing can be an effective treatment for hyperpigmentation and smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles.

BBL Lasers/Photofacial

While laser resurfacing uses pulsating light beams to rejuvenate your skin, BBL (or BroadBand Light) photofacials use light waves to target problem areas and damaged tissue. When applied to the skin, BBL heats the top layers of your skin. Once the targeted areas absorb the heat, the skin is prompted to regenerate skin cells. BBL photofacials are ideal for treating issues stemming from sun-damaged skin such as freckles, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles, and a loss of firmness.

Moxi Facial

milk + honey also offers Moxi Facials, a non ablative, fractional laser resurfacing procedure that stimulates collagen production and reduces the look of hyperpigmented spots. Moxie delivers gentle micro-pulses of fractionated laser energy to the skin, causing controlled damage to the surface of your skin. In response, your skin ramps up its collagen production to essentially heal itself, leaving you with brighter, fresher-looking skin. Ideal for improving the look of sun-damaged skin, Moxie revitalizes the skin and improves its tone and texture. Even better, clients tend to have visible results in just one treatment.

Healthy skin begins with effective (and year-round) sun care. However, if you’ve experienced any sun damage, there are quite a few noninvasive procedures you can do to restore your skin’s tone, texture, and radiance. Our licensed aestheticians would be happy to work with you to determine which procedure would be best to help you achieve your skincare goals. Please remember that a consultation is required if this is your first medical aesthetics procedure with milk + honey.
