With Summer still in session (but school not too far behind), it’s time to get a good dose of festivals and outdoor activities while the day is young. Here are our top six can’t-miss Austin events for August 2017.
August 4: Grab your blankets and lawn chairs and enjoy a family night out at the Mobile Fish & Loaves Community Cinema. In partnership with Alamo Drafthouse, the Community First! Village hosts an animated classic every Friday night. The first movie night starts at 7:30 p.m.
August 5: It’s time to don your favorite Summer white ensemble at 2nd Street District’s White Linen Nights. From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., snack on bites from your favorite downtown restaurants and pair it with an ice cold beer or glass of wine.
August 12: The 11th Annual Austin Ice Cream Festival might just be the sweetest Summer event… literally! Indulge your sweet tooth with samples from the city’s favorite dessert spots, including Amy’s Ice Cream, Austin Scoops, and more.
August 19: Did you know that Austin is home to the largest urban bat colony in North America? Honor our nocturnal friends at the 13th Annual Bat Fest. This nighttime festival kicks off with nearly two million bats taking off into the night sky. After the bats take off, enjoy the live music, food, and local vendors on the Congress Bridge.
August 20: Start Austin Pride Festival at the 4th Annual WERK Fashion Show. This runway show features a slew of designers from Project Runway, along with Lance Bass, Bianca Del Rio, and Coco Peru. Proceeds from this show will benefit the Austin LBGTQ Community Center.
August 26: Shop ’til you drop at Le Garage Sale on Saturday, August 26 and Sunday, August 27 at the Palmer Events Center. The city’s best boutiques are all under one roof and they’re selling their wares for a fraction of the price. The best part? We’ll be there, too!
