At Curls Night Out, the most asked for look was — without a doubt — “the Kate.” This versatile look can be worn on curly or straight hair, on land or sea, and in the office or to a night out with friends. One of the most common questions we received during Curls Night Out was, “how can I wear ‘the Kate’ with second-day hair?”
Our talented Hill Country Galleria stylist, Virginia, showed us how to take your beachy second-day hair to the next level with this bohemian faux-braid tutorial. Get the look now.
What You’ll Need:
- To achieve this look, you’ll need to start with second-day waves. Second-day hair gives your locks more bounce, volume, and texture, which are all important for this straight-from-the-ocean braided look.
- Next, prep your hair with Kevin.Murphy’s Hair.Resort spray, Doo.Over, and Aveda’s Air Control. These products will enhance your tousled, beachy waves, tame fly-aways, and give you added volume and texture.
- For this tutorial, you’ll need a couple of bobby pins and three clear hair rubber bands.
Boho Faux Braid
Step 1. Take two sections of hair from the front of your hairline and secure the two parts in the middle with a bobby pin.
Step 2. Further down the hair, secure your hair with a clear rubber band.
Step 3. Next take pieces from the outside of your hair and loop them around the clear rubber band. Then hold both pieces with a bobby pin. For added volume, gently tug hair out of the bobby pin.
Step 4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 twice.
That’s it! The perfect wavy hair “braid” in under five steps.
