We love our mothers. That’s why milk + honey held a Mother’s Day Makeover Contest. Thank you so much for all of your entries. It was wonderful reading all of the stories on what makes mothers so special. It was very difficult to pick a winner for our downtown and Galleria locations, but we pick two. We can’t wait to do it all over again next year.

Nanette is the Galleria winner. Her mother Nancy nominated her and wrote the entry below.
Last year, just before her 42nd birthday, Nannette got the life-changing news that she had breast cancer. It was so unexpected, as there is no history of breast cancer in our family. Nanette has been a vegetarian for many years, and is now a vegan. She loves to do yoga and to walk and to keep herself healthy. She is a single mother of a 12-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son.
Nanette went through her double mastectomy, chemotherapy and reconstruction with the help of wonderful friends and an amazing attitude. She decided to wear glittery eyeshadow, lipstick, sprinkle glitter in her hair and wear glittery t-shirts and shoes to every cancer treatment to help herself feel cute and sparkly. She started a blog and called it “Glitter Every Day,” in which she bared her soul. The blog made her friends and loved ones laugh, cry and become deeply aware of the reality of breast cancer.
She absolutely adores spas and massages, but the cancer treatment and recovery have been very expensive, so she has had to give up her favorite indulgence for a while. Also, she has to constantly battle the feeling that she is unattractive and different because of her breast cancer treatment, so winning a Mother’s Day Makeover would be so wonderful and welcomed by Nanette.
Her breast cancer diagnosis was a huge setback, but she is back on her feet and grateful for her life, her family and friends.
