No Sweat Summer: Botox for Hyperhidrosis

June 13, 2024

Neurotoxins like Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are renowned for their ability to soften fine lines and wrinkles, but their benefits extend far beyond cosmetic enhancements. From tackling excessive sweating to addressing non-cosmetic concerns, these treatments offer a wide range of possibilities for enhancing both appearance and quality of life. In this blog post, we’ll explore how neurotoxins can effectively manage hyperhidrosis, a medical condition characterized by uncontrollable sweating, and provide relief for those who struggle with this common yet often overlooked issue.

Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition marked by excessive sweating, typically occurring in specific areas such as the underarms, palms, or feet. For many individuals, this condition can be more than just a nuisance—it can significantly interfere with daily activities and cause embarrassment. While topical antiperspirants offer some relief, they may not always suffice, prompting individuals to seek alternative treatment options to manage their symptoms.

Neurotoxin injections offer a highly effective solution for managing hyperhidrosis by targeting the underlying cause of excessive sweating. These injections work by blocking the nerve signals that stimulate the sweat glands, thereby reducing sweat production in the treated areas. While the most commonly treated areas include the underarms, palms, and feet, neurotoxin injections can be tailored to address individual needs and concerns.

Neurotoxins like Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin go beyond simply softening fine lines and wrinkles. In addition to the ‘traditional’ areas like the Top 3 (Glabella, Crow’s Feet, and Forehead), these treatments offer numerous possibilities for addressing both cosmetic and non-cosmetic concerns

  1. Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition characterized by excessive sweating caused by overactive sweat glands most commonly seen in the underarms, palms, or feet. Many people suffer from excessive sweating regardless of their body temperature which can be embarrassing and interfere with their daily activities. In some cases, topical antiperspirants are not enough and patients may need to explore alternative options. Here’s how neurotoxins can help!
  2. The treatment works by blocking the nerve signals that instruct the sweat glands to become active. It can take up to two weeks for the results of Botox injections for hyperhidrosis to become evident. Depending on each person as well as the treatment area – the number of units needed varies however some patients may require 100 or more units to achieve optimal results. Like any non-surgical treatment, results are not permanent but can last around 4-6 months. Also a common misconception is that Botox injections may trigger compensatory sweating in other areas of the body. However, rest assured, such occurrences are extremely rare and are not permanent.
  3. Treatment areas include: Underarms, Palms, and Feet

Neurotoxin injections offer a versatile and effective solution for managing hyperhidrosis, providing relief for individuals struggling with excessive sweating. By targeting the underlying cause of the condition, these treatments can significantly improve quality of life and restore confidence. If you’re dealing with hyperhidrosis and seeking relief, consider exploring the possibilities offered by neurotoxin injections under the guidance of a qualified medical professional. Say goodbye to sweat stains and hello to a newfound sense of comfort and confidence!

3 Unexpected Ways to use Neurotoxins!

March 20, 2024

Hint, hint – it’s not just for your Forehead!

Neurotoxins like Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin go beyond simply softening fine lines and wrinkles. In addition to the ‘traditional’ areas like the Top 3 (Glabella, Crow’s Feet, and Forehead), these treatments offer numerous possibilities for addressing both cosmetic and non-cosmetic concerns. It’s important to note that injecting in these areas is considered ‘off-label’ use however when administered by a skilled medical provider, it is entirely safe.

‘Traptox’

You may have heard of this by now as it is the newest aesthetic trend seen all over TikTok! Let’s delve into why this trend is gaining so much popularity. To begin, we must first understand the trapezius muscle and its important role within our bodies. This muscle spans the back of the head to just above the lower back and extends out towards the shoulders. The trapezius muscle helps with posture and is involved in various movements like bending sideways, turning the head, lifting and lowering the shoulders, and rotating the arm inward.

But why are so many people opting to get injected in this area? Medical Providers highlight two major benefits! Firstly, overworked trapezius muscles can become tight and stiff when holding tension in the neck and shoulders that ultimately can lead to discomfort, pain, and even headaches. By injecting neurotoxins and blocking the signals to the nerves, the muscle becomes relaxed and any pain, discomfort or soreness is alleviated.

Secondly, for aesthetic purposes. Cosmetically, this treatment is known to slim the appearance of your shoulders and create the illusion of an elongated neck. When you try to flex the trapezius muscle, the signal is ultimately blocked by the neurotoxins, and as a result, the muscle atrophies over time, resulting in a reduction in size and a slimmer appearance.

Masseter Botox also known as ‘Jaw Botox’:

While this technique has gained popularity in recent years, it has been a secret weapon for patients wanting to relieve TMJ disorder symptoms or ‘reshape’ the appearance of their lower face.

The masseter facial muscle is powerful as it connects your lower jaw to your cheek and plays a crucial role in the chewing process. This muscle can easily become enlarged among patients who regularly grind or clench their teeth due to stress or TMJ. Over time, as this muscle becomes overworked, the jawline can ultimately shift and get wider.

By injecting Botox into this area, it essentially stops the muscles from contracting, offering relief from tension and gradually reducing the size of the muscle over time. Because Botox doesn’t completely paralyze the jaw muscles and is only targeting the specific masseter muscle, chewing and overall functionality is not compromised or affected.

Patients may experience some soreness and tenderness for a few days following their treatment, with the full effects typically being seen at the 2-4 week mark. It’s important to note for patients that are solely seeking facial slimming, that multiple sessions will be required to achieve optimal results.

Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition characterized by excessive sweating caused by overactive sweat glands most commonly seen in the underarms, palms, or feet. Many people suffer from excessive sweating regardless of their body temperature which can be embarrassing and interfere with daily activities. In some cases, topical antiperspirants are not enough and patients may need to explore alternative options. Here’s how Neurotoxins can help!

Botox is injected into the treatment area where it blocks the nerve signals responsible for overactive sweating, preventing the sweat glands from producing too much sweat. A common misconception is that injecting Botox will ultimately lead to compensatory sweating in other areas of the body. Rest assured, this is extremely rare and botox only targets sweating in the specific area where it’s injected.

Depending on the treatment area – the number of units needed varies however some patients may require 100 or more units to achieve results. Like any non-surgical treatment, results are not permanent but can last around 4-6 months.

Our medical providers will assess and determine if these ‘off-label’ uses are appropriate for their patients during a personalized consultation.  Book a complimentary consultation here.

Botox v. Dysport- What’s The Difference?

March 20, 2024

Dysport and Botox are both neurotoxin injectable treatments used for cosmetic purposes, by temporarily causing muscle paralysis when injected these treatments help diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Typically the most common areas of treatment are the ‘Top 3’ – Forehead, Glabella (between eyebrows) and Crow’s Feet. While these two products are similar in their primary use, here are the main differences:

Formulation:

Dysport is a smaller molecule within the Neurotoxin family and guests can expect to treat around 3x the amount to achieve an equivalent dosage and effect to Botox. As Dysport is priced lower than Botox, the cost difference tends to balance out in the long run.

Onset and Duration:

Both treatments typically last 3-4 months. Dysport often has a slightly faster onset compared to Botox, with results becoming noticeable within 3-5 days. Botox can take a bit longer to show full effects and is typically seen at the 7-day mark. As a rule of thumb, please remember that each guest ultimately reacts differently to these treatments and can take up to 2 weeks to settle fully and see final results.

Spread and Diffusion:

It is suggested that Dysport may have a broader spread from the injection site since it is a smaller molecule, making it more suitable for larger treatment areas. Botox, on the other hand, is preferred when placed in more targeted areas such as the Masseters or a Lip Flip.

Personal Preference:

The choice between Dysport and Botox can sometimes come down to personal preference. Individuals and providers may find that one product works better for their specific needs or provides a more desirable outcome.

Ultimately, our medical providers will decide between Dysport and Botox during a consultation. They will assess their guests’ unique anatomy, goals, and needs to determine which neurotoxin is right for them. Both Dysport and Botox are safe and effective treatments!

Discover Top medspa Neck Treatments for Ultimate Rejuvenation

February 28, 2024

When discussing aging signs, we often only focus on our faces. Patients are now going beyond facial treatments and turning their attention towards another telltale sign of aging – the neck. Botox, Dermal Fillers, Microneedling, Broadband Light (BBL), and Moxi treatments have emerged as powerful and effective solutions, offering a wide range of benefits for neck rejuvenation.

Let’s take a look at each of these treatments and understand how these services can ‘turn back time’, and help aid in a smoother, more youthful neck.

Botox for Platysmal Bands (Neck Bands):

Botox, commonly associated with facial wrinkles, can also work wonders for our platysmal bands (neck bands). As we age, our skin loses volume and these muscles become hyperactive over the years, making these bands appear more prominent. These vertical lines can be effectively smoothed out with the help of Botox injections. By targeting these muscles, Botox blocks nerve signals which in turn relaxes the muscles and minimizes the appearance of these fine lines and wrinkles, ultimately leaving you with a smoother, younger looking neck. While results are not permanent, patients can expect to retreat every 3-4 months.

Dermal Fillers for Neck Lines:

As we know, hyaluronic acid based dermal fillers are proven to restore lost volume, add definition and help smooth out deep onset facial wrinkles. When injected in the neck, these dermal fillers can address horizontal lines that tend to develop as we age and are essentially ‘etched’ throughout our life due consistent folding movements. Medical providers have also seen an increase in demand for these treatments, particularly over the last decade with the prevalent use of smartphones and devices. This is often referred to as ‘tech neck’. When dermal fillers are injected, patients can expect to see a more hydrated

*An easy way to think of injectables for the neck: Botox targets vertical lines and dermal filler addresses horizontal lines.

Microneedling

Collagen is a crucial protein responsible for maintaining the skin’s firmness and elasticity. As we age, collagen production decreases, leading to skin laxity and fine lines and wrinkles. Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that stimulates the skin’s natural collagen production. The tiny, controlled injuries induced by microneedling trigger the body’s healing response, boosting collagen and elastin stimulation.  When treating the neck, microneedling can effectively reduce the visible signs of aging, improve overall texture and address laxity concerns. To achieve optimal results patients will require multiple sessions as well as may need to combine with other medical aesthetic treatments depending on their severity and goals.

BroadBand Light (BBL)

Broadband Light (BBL), is a photofacial treatment from Sciton that gently delivers multiple wavelengths of light energy into the outer layer of the skin, promoting collagen production and stimulating cell regeneration on a molecular level. BBL’s advanced light technology is truly one of a kind as it allows for a customizable, precise treatment that ultimately targets a variety of skin concerns. When applied to the neck, BBL can target pigmentation issues, redness, age spots resulting in a more even-toned appearance.

Moxi Laser Resurfacing

Moxi is a non-ablative fractional resurfacing laser treatment, meaning it does not damage or injure the skin layer – rather it emits energy to the skin. Compared to traditional resurfacing lasers, Moxi is used to treat visible signs of aging by gently resurfacing the skin, leaving you with more radiant-looking skin with minimal to no downtime. Safe for all skin types and tones, the Moxi laser has three energy settings, to allow for customized treatment. Moxi aids as a great treatment for patients looking to address fine lines and wrinkles, texture, and sun damage.

When discussing anti-aging treatments, it’s important to not overlook the neck! We offer a variety of options for our patients to target neck concerns; through a customized assessment, our medical providers will determine which treatment is right for you. What to Expect From Your Lip Filler Appointment?

January 29, 2024

Lip fillers are not a ‘one size fits all’ treatment; whether patients are looking to refine lip contours, address asymmetry or proportion, restore volume, provide hydration, or just add that extra ‘oomph,’ our array of dermal fillers caters to every need.

So what are dermal fillers…

Let’s start first by understanding what these fillers consist of! Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance already found within our bodies. It plays a vital role as it is a primary component of what gives our skin structure, and is responsible for keeping our skin hydrated and plump! Common hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers, like Restylane, Juvederm, and RHA products, are often also infused with lidocaine to minimize discomfort during and after treatment. Once injected, patients can expect their results to last for about 6-12 months, depending on the specific product used and the body’s natural metabolic processes.

What to do before and after a lip filler treatment:

Pre Care

  • Avoid taking any blood thinning medications or supplements, this includes over the counter medication such as aspirin and ibuprofen for at least 7-10 days.

  • Avoid drinking alcohol at least 24 hours before your appointment.

  • Take arnica supplements a few days before your appointment to help minimize your chances of bruising and swelling.

  • Eat a small meal or snack before your appointment.

Post Care

  • Avoid strenuous exercise or extreme heat for at least 24 hours

  • Avoid smoking or drinking alcohol for at least 24-48 hours following treatment

  • Apply ice or a cold compress in 15-minute intervals for the first 12 hours. Always place a thin cloth or towel over the ice to prevent direct contact.

  • Stay hydrated, drink lots of water!

Patients can also expect swelling and bruising following their treatment, this is completely normal and should subside within 1-2 weeks. Final results are also not seen immediately as it takes 2 weeks for dermal fillers to fully settle.

Cost: Pricing varies based on the type of dermal filler used, and can range from $675-$875/per syringe. Our medical providers will conduct a personalized assessment to determine the most suitable product based on their patient’s individualized goals and needs.

This month enjoy 15% off (1) syringe of any 1ml Juvederm or Restylane collection of dermal fillers. Use code LipLove15 when booking.
