Welcome Katie, Our New Manager at SALON by milk + honey Arboretum Market

September 10, 2012

milk + honey is so excited to introduce our new manager for SALON by milk + honey Arboretum Market. Make sure to stop in and say hello to Katie Austin. That’s right. Her last name is Austin, so it was only a matter of time before she settled in our great city. We interviewed Katie, so you could get to know her a little better, in her own words.

I’m from Oklahoma City and started working in salons at the age of 19. I was immediately hooked. I worked at two high-end salons in OKC and after years of feeling out of place, I finally packed my bags and moved to Austin! I love this city and it feels like home. I love being a part of the salon world and working with creative minds! I wanted to work for milk + honey because I was really ready to get back on a career path after taking a year off from the salon/spa world. I knew this was a place I could learn and grow. milk + honey has provided its employees with a lot of opportunity and I’m lucky enough to be a part of it. Being a part of the SALON team will give me a chance to learn from the best and really showcase my talents. It’s early, but so far, everything about the Arboretum Market has been wonderful. If I had to choose just one thing as my favorite, it would have to be the team we’ve assembled here. Everyone is in sync with each other and very supportive. I’m so grateful to be a part of a team that genuinely cares about each other and everyone’s individual growth. It’s been great getting to know everyone and understanding what they want out of a salon team.

My favorite treatment at milk + honey spa would have to be facials. I LOVE facials. I was a little nervous going into my first facial ever, but I quickly understood why they’re so amazing. It’s a very relaxing experience and I was able to learn a lot about my skin and how to take care of it. My skin has never looked better and I know each time I’ll come out with “massage-brain” because it’s that relaxing of an experience. If I do a massage and a facial in the same day, I know to end it with a manicure/pedicure so my brain can function again. If you’re not into long spa retreats, at the very least, treat yourself to a milk + honey facial!

For my favorite treatment at SALON by milk + honey, Glossing treatments are simply the best. Being a red head, I have a lot of color maintenance; however, I can go nearly twice as long between appointments if I just do a glossing treatment! My faded ends look shiny and fresh and it even blends my roots. Everyone will benefit from a glossing treatment. Who doesn’t want shiny, beautiful, soft hair?

The one product that milk + honey sells that I can’t live without is Kevin.Murphy Young.Again. What a versatile product. It’s a treatment, so it will continue to strengthen your hair. It’s great for damaged and/or dry hair. Our Texas summers can be harsh to our hair, so adding just a pump of Young.Again to your ends makes a huge difference. You can use it on dry hands too. Young.Again will last forever and can be used on virtually everyone’s hair. It’s lightweight and adds a little shine to dull hair. Can’t live without it.

Finally, when I’m not working hard at milk + honey, I love to wind down and enjoy everything Austin has to offer. I love trying new restaurants and bars, shopping, Town Lake, and of course laying by the pool. I love camping, exploring the greenbelt, and never having to wear layers of coats. I love having so much to do right outside my doorstep. The friends I’ve made here make this town incredible and full of endless activities.

milk + honey looks forward to you getting to know Katie even better in the coming months.

Welcome Spa Concierge Claire

October 2, 2011

Welcome our newest concierge, Claire!

Austin was lucky to grab Claire from her home town of Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2008. When Claire is away from the spa you might catch her hanging out with her dog and two cats watching “The Wizard of Oz” or any early John Cusack movie.

What does a girl from the desert do to take care of her skin? Claire drinks a lot of water and uses tons of lotion + oil.
