New Service Alert! The American Wave…

February 1, 2016

For hair that has curl, texture, body, and movement, it’s time to join the American Wave movement. Available exclusively at our Arboretum Market location with stylists Susanna and Krystal, this new, damage-free, texturizing service creates soft, natural-looking waves and curls.

1

Perm vs. American Wave

Traditionally, perms create tight, patterned curls by using harsh chemicals in the hair. The American Wave treatment uses different styling tools, such as soft Flexi rods which allow the stylist to create looser more natural-looking curls and waves. Plus, this service doesn’t cause damage to your hair. After the service, the wave will continue to drop and loosen the curl for up to four weeks. This allows the hair to grow out nicely, creating that tousled, beachy look.

For a step-by-step look, check out the ARROJO American Wave video.

Which hair types are best for American Wave?

All hair types are welcomed to try the American Wave. Recently, the American Wave launched the new American Color Wave, which is perfect for clients with color-treated hair.

You’re ready to try the American Wave, now what?

Before booking your American Wave appointment, please call 512.236.1115 to schedule a consultation with our stylists. This service takes about three hours and will transform the way you look. Along with the American Wave service, clients will also receive one complimentary blowout to be used seven days after the service. During this time, our stylist will help you find the perfect shampoo, conditioners, and styling products for your new look.

P.S. the Kevin Murphy Resort Spray is a fantastic choice to quickly enhance and hold the curl.

Golden Globes 2015: The Looks We Loved

January 12, 2015

Award show season is here, and with it, a fresh batch of star-studded looks straight from the red carpet. Last night’s Golden Globe Awards ushered in a sea of apple-red, intricate black lace, and body-skimming gowns, as well as a noticeable return to classic Hollywood beauty “moves.” Think dramatic waves to rival equally dramatic eyes, matte red lips, and enviable haircuts. Our favorite looks from the evening, listed below, are simply meant to inspire our own hair/styling routines — or if you’re feeling a bit gutsy (and are currently sporting long hair), it might just be time to try the “the chop” á la Sienna Miller. Just sayin’.

Amy Adams

When we think Old Hollywood glamour-turned-modern day beauty, Amy Adams tops our list. For the Globes, makeup artist Stephen Sollitto chose a subtle champagne-meets-copper eye to complement her soft waves and ice blue Atelier Versace gown.

Gwyneth Paltrow

Love her or hate her, she knows how to make her mark. This time, it’s in cotton-candy pink with a low-key twist. Unlike her more iconic pink moment — in pale pink Ralph Lauren at the 1999 Oscars — Paltrow’s Michael Kors gown was a sportier version of sexy, a silhouette that her stylist David Babaii highlighted with ’70s hair: straight from the crown to the jawline, and then perfectly undone, loose curls to finish.

Viola Davis

Davis rarely makes the wrong move on the red carpet, case in point. Not only was her ruby-tinged Donna Karan gown a source of bold color choice, her eyes and lips also proved to be statement-worthy. The juxtaposition of shimmer-y mauve eyeshadow and classic red lip resulted in one seriously glamorous look.

Sienna Miller

This British beauty tied for Best Dressed and Best Haircut of the night — at least in our books. If ever there were real-time motivation to go for “the chop,” this would be it. Her barely-there makeup, courtesy of makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury, allowed us to focus on the gorgeous embellishments of her Miu Miu gown and, of course, that ridiculously awesome bedhead bob.

Emma Stone

Stone knows how to wear dramatic looks with ease. Chanel makeup artist Rachel Goodwin not only emphasized the redhead’s feline eyes with a smokey cat eye, she also paired it with a soft berry-hued lip and tousled waves. It’s one-part dressed up, one-part just-woke-up, and we love it.

aveda

We have good news for textured/curly-hair — especially those who continue to search for the fastest/”green”-est way to get straight locks: we’re now carrying Aveda’s Smooth Infusion Naturally Straight styling creme at all three of our locations.

Here’s what you need to know about this awesome new product:

1. It progressively straightens curls with every use.
2. As you blow-dry your hair, plant-derived fibers create a locking layer to help hold your hair straight.
3. Organic cassava root forms a barrier against intense humidity. Translation: goodbye frizz!
4. Over time, straight styling becomes faster and easier. In fact, after five consecutive applications of Naturally Straight creme, hair will stay straight for up to three washes.

May 13, 2014

It’s almost that time of year where you can belt out from the proverbial rooftop, “School’s out forever!,” and really mean it… at least for a few months. Do You Color Your Hair? Have You Tried the Ammonia-Free Organic Color System?

March 7, 2014

1391771_10151907565279464_853586749_n

What makes the Organic Color System different from the rest? Our Organic Master Colorist, Kelli, has the answers.

This ammonia-free, oil-based color line will exceed your expectations while keeping your hair healthy and shiny. Kelli has been using the line almost exclusively for four years. She began her career at the Sassoon Academy and has worked as an educator for several color lines.

So, what exactly made her stick with Organic Color after 15 years in the industry? Simply put: no ammonia. After becoming a color specialist, she felt fatigued and was having a hard time with the ammonia smell that’s found in many color lines. While doing some research, she came across the Organic Color System and was thrilled to see what great results they offer without the use of ammonia. Since this fateful discovery, Kelli has become a certified educator for the brand. Her favorite thing about the Organic System is that it works for everyone. The color is shiny, there’s less fading, and it works great on all hair types. Win-win.

Ready to make your color appointment with Kelli? Click here for her availability at the Arboretum Market location.

Now Trending: The Bob

January 13, 2014

If last year’s hair craze was “the lob” — that’s a long short bob, in case you were wondering — then 2014 is already all about the bob. It’s chic, shapes/sculpts your face, and let’s face it, it’s one of the easier hair lengths to manage on a day-to-day basis. You can do an edgier cut (blunt layers), a softer one (reminiscent of a 1920s flapper bob), or have a little more fun with it and add some ombré while you’re at it.

Look to the most recent slew of celebrities to go short and blunt for proof of its now-trending popularity.

and Beyoncé, for just a hot second.

There’s also Michelle Dockery of ‘Downton Abbey,’ Lena Dunham, Elisabeth Moss of ‘Mad Men,’ and Kat Graham of ‘The Vampire Diaries’ doing it too.

Are you feeling the bob? With the New Year-new you resolutions and attitude set into motion, this is the time to experiment. Translation: chop it all off. And we’ve got just the place for you to do it…

Here’s the excerpt from Vogue.com’s Vogue Daily …

Hair Across America: Fall’s Top Color and Cut Trends

From Lily Kwong and Lena Dunham both chopping it all off—Lily to a bob, Lena to a pixie—in the midst of New York Fashion Week to brunette Erika Bearman’s (aka OscarPRGirl’s) radical turn as an ice blonde just last week, change is in the air this fall. We checked in with some of the top salons across the country to find out what style and color trends are turning heads this season.

AUSTIN, TX
The Salon: Salon by milk + honey
The Look: Red
“Everyone’s going red this season. Even my blonde clients are going auburn and chestnut,” says stylist Amanda Lee. “Depending on how bold the client wants to be, I’ll pick three shades that are really close to each other in level, but vary the tone—for example, a red-red, a copper red, and a mahogany red. Then I’ll section out the hair and apply the tones in a blocking pattern. When the hair falls, you see all three colors simultaneously but can’t tell where they’re coming from. The effect is really soft and dimensional.”
