swap it: four ways to clean up your beauty routine

April 30, 2018

Last year, we launched #WhyWeSayYesTo / #WhyWeSayNoTo: an online conversation highlighting ingredients we’ll never use and what we choose instead. Here’s a wrap-up of our preliminary suggestions to clean up your beauty routine — one product at a time.

Hand Purifier

Swap your ordinary hand sanitizer for milk + honey’s Hand Purifier. The handbag-friendly essential is made with natural alcohol — distilled from denatured lavender oil. while other hand sanitizers strip + dry your skin, our cleaner ingredients are designed to refresh and soothe.

Lip Balm

Acting as the base in our Lip Butters and Lip Polishes, organic virgin coconut oil deeply moisturizes and nourishes dry lips. Most lip balms in your bag are likely made of petrolatum (or petroleum jelly), which creates a barrier over your lips and skin — preventing any moisture from being absorbed. Instead, we stick to the clean ingredients found in nature — the ones that actually work.

Deodorant

There’s a reason everyone’s switching to natural deodorant. Antiperspirants use harmful ingredients like aluminum to clog your pores, which disrupts your natural detox process. that’s why we say yes to effective natural ingredients like baking soda + essential oils in our Cream Deodorant. our effective formulation will keep you smelling fresh while allowing your body the detox it needs.

Fragrance

When you see “fragrance” on an ingredient list, it can mean any number of chemicals are hidden in the product. many “fragrances” are synthetic and contain hidden pthalates, which are known endocrine disruptors. In short — you don’t know exactly what you’re signing up for. We believe in transparency, which is #WhyWeSayNoTo artificial fragrances. instead, we choose to use pure essential oils — aka no hidden phthalates, preservatives, or parabens.
