What’s the SALON by milk + honey Apprentice Program?

July 17, 2017

In order to foster growth, empowerment, and a positive environment for all our employees, milk + honey offers benefits and opportunities that far exceed industry norms. The SALON by milk + honey Apprentice Program is one such example of this commitment.

Led by full-time SALON by milk + honey stylists, the Apprentice Program is designed to offer advanced training in techniques, formulation, and client experience to new cosmetologists, and lasts approximately 10 months with formal classrooms held once a week. In addition, our apprentices gain cut, color, and styling knowledge as well as glean insight into true behind-the-chair experiences from a Program Mentor, which is meant to enhance their classroom education.

Today marks the start of a new class of SALON by milk + honey apprentices and we thought it would be fun to meet them!

PEYTON

“I learned about the apprentice program at milk + honey through a recruiting event at the Aveda Institute. When I listened to the HR team speak about the salon, I knew it was a place that I wanted to not only apprentice at, but one day, work there. After the meeting, I went home and applied online for a salon assistant job. Now that I’m an apprentice and a salon assistant, I can’t see myself working anywhere else. I can’t wait to learn about all of the advanced cutting and coloring techniques from milk + honey stylists, Kacie and Katie. In school, they teach you the basics, but there’s so much more to learn. During this program, I really want to fine tune my skills and gain confidence in my abilities.”

SAMMIE

“I recently moved from California and I was searching for a top-notch salon to apprentice at when I stumbled across milk + honey.  While researching the salon online, I saw a couple of stylists who had completed the program and read they were able to accomplish their goals because of the program. To me, that says a lot! I can’t wait to learn all of the ins and out of hair styling. From color and cuts to updos to achieving that big “Texas hair” look, I hope to gain as much knowledge as I possibly can. Learning is growth and I never want to stop growing — ever.”

DAKOTA

“I was looking at ads online for salon positions when I came across milk + honey. After reading about their values, I instantly fell in love. I agreed with everything the company stood for and I knew I wanted to work at a salon that uses natural hair care ingredients. Once I tested Davines and Kevin.Murphy — and saw the results — it was, without question, something I wanted to educate people on. My dream is to complete the program and be a successful stylist at milk and honey. I appreciate this opportunity and I’m ready for all the challenges my journey will bring.”

— Dakota, apprentice at SALON by milk + honey Arboretum Market

APRIL
“I was interviewing for the salon assistant position when Adri {Arborteum Market manager} told me about this program. The extensive education and one-on-one mentoring is what initially drew me in. While I’m already a stylist, I’m really excited to advance my color knowledge so that I can become more successful in this business.”

— April, apprentice at SALON by milk + honey Arboretum Market

Good luck y’all! I hope you are as stellar as my last salon apprentice.

I try to steer away from self-congratulations, especially in regards my appearance. I live in a city full of 9s and 10s, wagging about in the yoga pants with all the cut slits in the right places to accentuate their flesh. I feel like a 6 on a good day, but Dammnnnn Lesley @hairlove_nyc @sambrocatosalon f’ing brought the house down with this vibrant mix of yellows, oranges, and reds!
